A major auction marking the 100th anniversary of Marilyn Monroe’s birth is attracting strong interest, with collectors bidding on hundreds of personal items linked to the Hollywood legend.
A major auction celebrating the 100th anniversary of Marilyn Monroe's birth has attracted strong interest from collectors, with bids already reaching tens of thousands of dollars for personal items once owned by the Hollywood icon.

The sale, organised by Julien's Auctions, features 185 pieces from Monroe’s life, including evening gowns, cosmetics, jewellery, rare photographs and personal accessories.
Among the most sought-after items is a gold-toned 1950s purse containing everyday belongings such as lipstick, cigarettes and a small comb.
Born Norma Jeane Mortenson on 1 June 1926, Monroe became one of the most recognisable stars of the 20th century through films including Some Like It Hot and Niagara.
She died in 1962 at the age of 36, but remains a powerful cultural figure more than six decades later.
The auction includes personal beauty products such as lipsticks, blush and eyeliner, alongside previously unpublished photographs and items from Monroe’s only owned home in the Brentwood area of Los Angeles.
Celebrations of Monroe’s centenary have taken place across the United States this week.
In Palm Springs, more than 1,000 fans gathered dressed in her famous white dress to commemorate the actress’s legacy.
Another auction held by Heritage Auctions has also offered Monroe-related memorabilia, including clothing and personal correspondence from her marriage to playwright Arthur Miller.
The continuing enthusiasm surrounding the sales highlights Monroe’s enduring status as one of Hollywood’s most celebrated and collectible stars.
